Poignant images from the environmental photographer of the year 2016.

This year’s Environmental Photographer of the Year Award has been announced, and the shortlist includes some stunning and poignant photography from around the world.

Organised by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), the Environmental Photographer of the Year Award puts sustainable development, pollution and human rights at the forefront of people’s minds through the medium of photography and film. The work from this year’s winner, Sara Lindström, and the shortlist can be seen at the Royal Geographical Society in London from June 29 to August 21 2016. Below is a selection of our favourite photographs from the awards.
